Installing DEX on Windows

Download DEX from this link:

Download DEX for Windows 10 and 11
Installation is simple! Just follow these easy steps:
  1. Drag the downloaded program onto the desktop.
  2. That's it - there is no install or setup needed!
Note: The first time you run DEX, Windows might consider it unsafe, as it has not been codesigned. Click "Run Anyway" and the warning dialog will be cleared.

You can drag a document and drop it on the icon to open the program, or open it in the more traditional way with a double click and then use the FILE menu command to open a document with a dialog.

A resource directory C:\users\<your user name>\Dex has been installed by the DEX program.

Installing DEX on Linux

For Linux, there are a few necessary setup steps. If you have a real desktop (such as Cinnamon) you can open DEX by dragging and dropping a file on the desktop icon.

Initial Setup Steps
  1. Copy the DEX program to your home directory
  2. From a terminal, enter these commands:
  3. cd ~
  4. chmod 770 dex
  5. ~/dex
  6. Close the DEX program
For Cinnamon / Linux Mint Desktops
  1. Double Click on the dex.desktop icon
  2. Select Mark as Trusted
  3. The desktop icon will change and will now accept dropped files to open
For Ubuntu Non-Cinnamon Desktops
  1. Right-Click on the dex.desktop icon
  2. Click on Allow Launching
  3. The desktop icon will launch DEX, and will now accept dropped files to open

A resource directory ~/Dex has been installed by the DEX program.
